Every home will eventually face plumbing problems as it ages. These problems almost always start small and not so obviously. Die hard do-it-yourself individuals get a kick out of fixing simple problems, as most of the common issues associated with plumbing are really very simple to fix. Somehow, it is very important that one should have an idea on the most common plumbing problems faced by every household. If you can fix it yourself, it will certainly save you from paying a professional plumber to do a job that is so simple. However, just be sure that you do not attempt to fix a job that is serious as it may worsen the problem.
Here are some of the most common plumbing complaints that you should be aware of:
A. Trickling Faucets. It may look harmless. A little drip may not look like much of an issue but it can eventually develop into constant running water which will cost a homeowner a huge utility bill if overlooked. The problems worse if the drip is coming from a hot water tap, you will not only pay extra for the water that was wasted but also the electricity from the water heater. A trickling faucet is easy to fix. Either you just need to replace the worn out washer or replace the faucet. If you are not sure what size is the faucet washer, just bring the sample to the hardware store and buy one that is similar.
B. Leaky Pipe Connection. This happens when the connection between two pipes has loosened and starts to leak. Most people only repair the pipe if it is not damaged, by wrapping a Teflon tape around one end and reattaching the two pipes together. If the pipe is broken, you can simply replace the broken part with a new one and attached it together with a new gasket and sealant.
C. Slow or No Draining Water. This can happen because there is a clog due to foreign objects, grease or soap filth. All you need to do is plunge it with a plunger, or pour a powerful chemical drain solution over the drain to let go the objects clogging the drain.
D. Low Water Pressure. This comes about when you turn the tap and only little water comes out. You can check to see if the water pressure is low through the water gauge by the water pump. This can also be because there is a blocked line wherein you need to call a professional plumber to fix it for you.
E. Clogs. Clogs may happen in the kitchen drain, bathtub drain, shower drain or the toilet. Different objects cause these drains to clog up. For example, too much toilet paper can clog the toilet. Soap residue and hair can clog the bathroom sink. Food particles like bones and hardened oil or fat can clog the kitchen sink. All these can be solved by pouring drain cleaners on it or by snaking the drain.
